Shift Solenoid "D" Control Circuit High

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The control circuit for shift solenoid "D" is reading high - typically shorted to voltage or a lost earth. The module cannot control the solenoid, and a circuit shorted to voltage can hold it energised, which applies a gear that should be released rather than simply losing control of it.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the solenoid earth before assuming a shorted signal wire - a lost earth commonly drives a circuit high.
  2. Disconnect at the case connector and check whether the high reading persists at the harness side.
  3. Pull the case connector and inspect for fluid and corrosion.
  4. Follow the harness looking for a chafe point against a supply wire.
  5. If the transmission feels like it is binding or trying to hold two gears, stop driving it - read the P0893 guidance, which covers that condition.
