Gate Select Position Circuit Range/Performance

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The gate select position sensor is answering but its reading does not agree with what the module expects - the reported position does not match where the selector shaft actually ended up. Usually this is lost calibration or mechanical wear rather than a dead sensor.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Run the position calibration procedure first. On these transmissions it is a routine step and resolves many of these codes without any parts.
  2. Watch the reported gate position through a full sweep and compare it with the specification.
  3. Check the hydraulic pressure if the system is hydraulically actuated - a slow actuator often means low pressure rather than a bad sensor.
  4. Check the wiring and connector for high resistance.
  5. Read all codes for gear shift position or actuator faults alongside.

Read this code from your own car

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
