Hydraulic Pressure Sensor Circuit

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

A fault in the hydraulic pressure sensor circuit. On an automated manual transmission an electric pump keeps an accumulator charged with hydraulic pressure, and that pressure is what moves the clutch and selector actuators. This sensor tells the module how much pressure is available; without it the module cannot know whether it can complete a gear change.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Watch the reported hydraulic pressure on the live data screen while the pump runs. A reading that does not change identifies the fault.
  2. Check the reference voltage and earth at the sensor.
  3. Inspect the connector at the hydraulic unit for corrosion and fluid contamination.
  4. Check the hydraulic fluid level and look for leaks around the unit.
  5. Read all codes - a pump relay or pressure unit code alongside this one changes the diagnosis.

Read this code from your own car

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
