Auto Shift Manual Control Circuit Range/Performance

Severity
Low
Driving
No driving restriction

The auto shift manual control circuit is answering but its behaviour is implausible - requests arriving when nothing has been touched, or a control that reads as operated continuously. Usually a sticking switch rather than a wiring fault.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Watch the switch state without touching anything. A reading that already shows the control operated identifies a stuck switch immediately.
  2. Inspect a console control for spilled drink, which is the most common cause.
  3. Check the clock spring on steering-wheel-mounted controls.
  4. Inspect the wiring for chafe damage.
  5. Confirm automatic shifting is unaffected before deciding how urgent this is.
