Pressure Control Solenoid "A" Control Circuit Low

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The control circuit for pressure control solenoid "A" is reading low - typically shorted to earth or open circuit. The module cannot drive the solenoid, so line pressure cannot be controlled and the transmission falls back to a failsafe, usually holding one gear with harsh engagement.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Read all codes first - several solenoid codes at once point at a shared cause.
  2. Disconnect at the case connector and check whether the low reading persists at the harness side. That establishes whether the fault is inside or outside the transmission.
  3. Pull the case connector and look for fluid ingress and corroded pins.
  4. Measure the solenoid winding resistance against specification.
  5. Check the fluid level and condition.

Read this code from your own car

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
