Hydraulic Pressure Sensor Circuit Intermittent

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The hydraulic pressure signal is dropping out intermittently. Gear changes work most of the time and occasionally fail. As with all intermittent circuit faults, connections are more likely than components - but a genuinely fluctuating pressure will produce the same code.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Watch the pressure reading through several pump cycles. Genuine fluctuation looks different from an electrical dropout - the reading falls smoothly rather than jumping.
  2. Check the fluid level and look for a slow leak.
  3. Wiggle-test the harness at the hydraulic unit.
  4. Inspect the connector for a backed-out pin and for fluid contamination.
  5. Record the freeze frame data if the tool supports it.

Read this code from your own car

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
