Transmission Fluid Pressure

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The transmission fluid pressure is not what the module expects, without it specifying high or low. Line pressure is what holds the clutches together, so a pressure problem is one of the more serious things a transmission can report - too little and the clutches slip and burn, too much and the shifts become violent.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the fluid level and condition first. It is the most common cause and the only one you can fix cheaply.
  2. Check when the filter was last changed.
  3. Read all codes for a pressure sensor or solenoid code that names the component.
  4. A line pressure test with a gauge is the definitive step here and is worth paying for.
  5. Look for clutch material in the fluid, which tells you whether the transmission is worth repairing before any money is spent.
