Clutch Pedal Switch "A" Circuit Low

The clutch pedal switch "A" signal is stuck low - typically shorted to earth, or the switch stuck in one state. The module cannot tell whether the clutch pedal is pressed, so starting, cruise control and stop-start may all behave unexpectedly.
Possible causes

What to check, in order
- Watch the switch "A" state while pressing and releasing the pedal. A reading that never changes confirms the fault.
- Unplug the switch and check whether the low reading persists at the harness. If it does, the wiring is at fault rather than the switch.
- Check the adjustment before condemning the switch - a switch the pedal never reaches reads exactly like a failed one.
- Compare against the other clutch switch, which should still behave normally.
- Ask whether an aftermarket alarm or immobiliser was fitted, since these are commonly wired into the clutch switch circuit.
