Clutch Pedal Switch "A" Circuit

Severity

Driving

A fault in the clutch pedal switch "A" circuit. The module uses this switch to know when the clutch pedal is pressed - to permit starting, to cancel cruise control, and to adjust fuelling during a gear change. Vehicles often have two of these switches for redundancy, so the fault may show only as a warning rather than as a change in behaviour.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Watch the switch "A" state on the live data screen while pressing the pedal fully.
  2. Compare it with the other clutch switch. One reading correctly and the other not immediately identifies which switch is at fault.
  3. Check the switch adjustment and the striker on the pedal. Adjustment is the most common fix here.
  4. Inspect the connector in the footwell, where feet catch it.
  5. Check the pedal bushings for wear, which changes how far the pedal travels.
