Clutch Position Sensor Circuit

Severity

A fault in the clutch position sensor circuit. On an automated manual or dual-clutch transmission the module needs to know exactly where the clutch is in order to engage it smoothly. Without that it cannot control take-up, so expect jerky moving off, harsh engagement or a refusal to drive at all.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Ask whether the clutch or its actuator has been replaced recently. These systems need calibrating afterwards, and an uncalibrated sensor is far more common than a failed one.
  2. Watch the clutch position reading on the live data screen through an engagement cycle.
  3. Check the reference voltage and earth at the sensor before condemning it.
  4. Inspect the connector for corrosion and the harness for chafing.
  5. Consider clutch wear. A clutch worn past the range the sensor can report produces this code with everything working as designed.
