Gear Lever X Position Circuit

Severity
Medium
Driving
Drivable — book it in

A fault in the gear lever X position circuit. The selector reports its position on two axes; this code says the X axis is not giving a usable reading. With only one axis working the module cannot resolve which gate position the lever is in, so gear selection will be refused or wrong.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Watch the X axis reading on the live data screen while moving the lever. Compare it with the other axis, which should still be behaving normally.
  2. Check for spilled drink inside the selector assembly.
  3. Check the reference voltage and earth - if both axes share them and only one axis is wrong, the supply is not the problem.
  4. Inspect the connector under the console.
  5. Most selector assemblies are replaced complete rather than repaired. Confirm the fault properly before ordering one.
