Clutch Position Control Error

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The module commanded the clutch to a position and it did not get there. The circuit is not being blamed - this is about the clutch physically failing to do what it was told, which points at the actuator, the hydraulics or clutch wear rather than at wiring.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Assess clutch wear first. On a high-mileage automated manual, this code is very often simply a worn-out clutch, and no amount of electrical diagnosis will change that.
  2. Run the clutch adaptation or calibration procedure. If the code returns immediately afterwards, the fault is mechanical.
  3. Check the clutch hydraulic fluid level and look for leaks at the slave cylinder and pipework.
  4. Watch commanded against actual clutch position on the live data screen through a full cycle.
  5. Do not keep driving a clutch that is slipping. It destroys itself quickly and can damage the flywheel with it, which multiplies the cost of the repair.
