TCM Power Input Signal Range/Performance

The transmission module's supply voltage is present but outside the range it expects, or unstable. It may sag under load, spike, or sit persistently low or high. Solenoid control depends on a predictable voltage, so shift quality suffers before anything actually fails.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Measure battery voltage with the engine off and again with it running. Outside roughly 12.4 to 12.7 volts at rest, or outside the charging range running, and you have found the fault.
  2. Perform a voltage drop test on the module's supply and earth. High resistance in a corroded connection produces exactly this without anything looking wrong.
  3. Check the alternator output under load - lights and heated screen on.
  4. Clean and tighten the battery terminals and earth straps.
  5. Ask about aftermarket electrical equipment, particularly amplifiers and winches, which can drag the supply down.

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
