Transmission Fluid Cooler Control Circuit High

Severity

The transmission fluid cooler control circuit is reading high - typically shorted to voltage or a lost earth. The module cannot control the cooler path, so fluid temperature will not be managed as intended.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Disconnect the control valve and check whether the high reading persists at the harness.
  2. Check the cooler and its lines for blockage, leaks and external debris.
  3. Inspect the connector and wiring at the control valve.
  4. Measure the solenoid winding resistance against specification.
  5. Watch transmission fluid temperature on a normal drive - it should rise and then hold steady.
  6. Check the fluid level and condition first. It is the cheapest check and it explains more transmission complaints than every electrical fault combined.
