Shift Solenoid "F" Intermittent

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The circuit for shift solenoid "F" is faulting intermittently. The transmission drives normally most of the time and then shifts badly or drops into limp mode, usually recovering after a restart.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Note whether it only happens hot. A fault that appears after twenty minutes and is gone the next morning points at the internal harness or the solenoid.
  2. Record the freeze frame data - the fluid temperature when the code set is often the most useful clue available.
  3. Check the fluid level and condition first. It is the cheapest check and it explains more transmission complaints than every electrical fault combined.
