Pressure Control Solenoid "D"

A fault in pressure control solenoid "D". Pressure control solenoids set the hydraulic line pressure inside the transmission - how hard the clutches are squeezed together. Too little and the clutches slip and burn; too much and the shifts become violent. The module will usually default to maximum pressure, which is safe for the clutches but harsh to drive.

What you might notice
- Very harsh or violent shifts
- Slipping under load
- Transmission stuck in one gear
- Delayed engagement into drive or reverse
- Check engine light on
What to check, in order
- Read all transmission codes together. Several solenoid codes at once point at the case connector, the internal harness or contaminated fluid - not at several failed solenoids.
- Pull the transmission case connector and look for fluid inside it. Fluid wicking up the harness corrodes the pins and can reach and destroy the control module itself.
- Check the fluid level and condition first. It is the cheapest check and it explains more transmission complaints than every electrical fault combined.
