Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Control Circuit High

Severity
Medium
Driving
Drivable — book it in

The torque converter clutch pressure solenoid circuit is reading high - typically shorted to voltage or a lost earth. The module cannot control the converter clutch, so it will not lock up and fuel consumption will suffer.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Disconnect at the case connector and check whether the high reading persists at the harness side.
  2. Pull the transmission case connector and look for fluid inside it. Fluid wicking up the harness corrodes the pins and can reach and destroy the control module itself.
  3. Check the fluid level and condition first. It is the cheapest check and it explains more transmission complaints than every electrical fault combined.
