Pressure Control Solenoid "D" Electrical

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

An electrical fault in the circuit for pressure control solenoid "D" - an open winding, a short, or resistance outside specification. The module cannot drive the solenoid, so it falls back to a failsafe pressure and usually holds one gear.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Read all transmission codes together. Several solenoid codes at once point at the case connector, the internal harness or contaminated fluid - not at several failed solenoids.
  2. Pull the transmission case connector and look for fluid inside it. Fluid wicking up the harness corrodes the pins and can reach and destroy the control module itself.
  3. Check the fluid level and condition first. It is the cheapest check and it explains more transmission complaints than every electrical fault combined.

Read this code from your own car

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
