P2714
Pressure Control Solenoid "D" Performance or Stuck Off
- Severity
- High
- Driving
- Drive only to a garage
Pressure control solenoid "D" is electrically sound but is not controlling pressure as commanded. Line pressure is therefore wrong, and since line pressure is what holds the clutches together, the transmission will either slip or shift very harshly.
Possible causes
- CommonDebris in the fluid jamming the solenoid
- CommonFailed solenoid
- CommonCorroded transmission case connector, or fluid wicking into it
- CommonLow or degraded fluid
- PossibleInternal transmission harness failure
- PossibleSticking valve in the valve body bore
What you might notice
- Very harsh or violent shifts
- Slipping under load
- Transmission stuck in one gear
- Delayed engagement into drive or reverse
- Check engine light on
What to check, in order
- A proper line pressure test with a gauge is the way to separate a solenoid fault from a worn pump. It is worth paying for before buying parts.
- Slipping clutches destroy themselves quickly. Do not keep driving a transmission that slips while you decide what to do.
- Check the fluid level and condition first. It is the cheapest check and it explains more transmission complaints than every electrical fault combined.

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
