Shift Solenoid "F"

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

A fault in shift solenoid "F". Shift solenoids are the valves that route hydraulic pressure to the clutches that make each gear, so the gears depending on this one become unavailable and the transmission will usually hold a single gear.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Note which gears you can and cannot reach. The pattern of missing gears tells a specialist a great deal and costs nothing to observe.
  2. Check the fluid level and condition first. It is the cheapest check and it explains more transmission complaints than every electrical fault combined.
