Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Low

The coolant temperature sensor 2 signal is reading low. On a typical sensor whose resistance falls as temperature rises, that reads as implausibly hot; electrically it is usually a short to earth.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Compare the reported temperature with the other coolant sensor and with ambient on a vehicle that has stood overnight. All should agree closely when cold.
  2. Check the coolant level and look for leaks. A low level uncovers the sensor and produces these codes with a good sensor.
  3. Inspect the connector for corrosion.
  4. Check the reference voltage and earth at the sensor.
  5. Watch the temperature climb from cold on a drive - it should rise smoothly and settle.
