Coolant temperature sensor 2 is answering but its reading is not plausible - it disagrees with the other sensor or does not change as the engine warms.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Compare the reported temperature with the other coolant sensor and with ambient on a vehicle that has stood overnight. All should agree closely when cold.
  2. Check the coolant level and look for leaks. A low level uncovers the sensor and produces these codes with a good sensor.
  3. Inspect the connector for corrosion.
  4. Check the reference voltage and earth at the sensor.
  5. Watch the temperature climb from cold on a drive - it should rise smoothly and settle.
