A fault in the EGR vent control circuit - low, which usually means a short to earth or an open circuit. The vent valve bleeds vacuum out of a vacuum-operated EGR system so the EGR valve can close again. When it fails, the EGR valve tends to be slow to close or to stay open longer than intended.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Disconnect the valve and see whether the low reading persists at the harness.
  2. Inspect the vent solenoid connector and its wiring.
  3. Measure the solenoid winding resistance against specification.
  4. Check the vacuum hoses at the vent valve. Perished hoses are common on the age of vehicle that has this system.
  5. Check for other EGR codes. This valve rarely fails alone, and a companion code usually identifies the real problem.
