Fuel Injector Group "C" Supply Voltage Circuit/Open

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

An open circuit or general fault in the supply voltage circuit for fuel injector group "C". Injectors are usually fed in groups from a common supply, so this fault takes out several cylinders at once rather than one. Expect a severe misfire, an engine running on part of its cylinders, or no start at all.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the fuses and relays for the injector circuit first. It is the cheapest cause and it accounts for a large share of these faults.
  2. Note which cylinders are misfiring. If they are all on one bank or all in one group, that confirms a shared supply rather than several failed injectors.
  3. Check for battery voltage at the injector connectors with the ignition on.
  4. Measure the injector windings for one that has shorted internally and pulled the supply down.
  5. A flashing check engine light during a severe misfire means unburnt fuel is reaching the catalytic converter. Stop and have it recovered rather than driving on.
