Shift Solenoid "B" Electrical

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

An electrical fault in the circuit for shift solenoid "B" - an open winding, a short to earth or voltage, or resistance outside specification. The module cannot drive the solenoid, so it will drop into a failsafe and hold one gear.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Read all transmission codes first. Several solenoid electrical codes together point at the case connector or the internal harness, not at several failed solenoids.
  2. Pull the transmission case connector and look for fluid inside it. Fluid tracking up the harness corrodes the pins and can eventually reach and destroy the control module.
  3. Measure the solenoid resistance at the case connector against specification.
  4. Check the harness between the module and the transmission for chafe damage.
  5. Check the fluid level and condition while the vehicle is raised.
  6. Do not order a control module until the connector, harness and solenoid have all been measured.

Read this code from your own car

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
