P0745
Pressure Control Solenoid "A"
- Severity
- High
- Driving
- Drive only to a garage
A fault in pressure control solenoid "A". Pressure control solenoids set the hydraulic line pressure inside the transmission - how hard the clutches are squeezed together. Too little pressure and the clutches slip and burn; too much and the shifts become violent. The module has found this solenoid's circuit or behaviour unacceptable and will usually default to maximum pressure, which is safe for the clutches but harsh to drive.
Possible causes
- CommonFailed pressure control solenoid
- CommonDebris from internal wear jamming the solenoid
- CommonCorroded transmission case connector, or fluid wicking into it
- CommonLow or degraded fluid
- PossibleInternal transmission harness failure
- PossibleWiring damage between the module and the transmission
What you might notice
- Very harsh or violent shifts
- Slipping under load
- Transmission stuck in one gear
- Delayed engagement when selecting drive or reverse
- Check engine light on
What to check, in order
- Check the fluid level and condition first. Degraded fluid and the debris in it cause more solenoid faults than the solenoids themselves.
- Read all transmission codes together. Several solenoid codes at once usually means the internal harness, the case connector or contaminated fluid - not several failed solenoids.
- Inspect the case connector for fluid ingress and corroded pins.
- Measure the solenoid winding resistance against specification if it is accessible.
- Expect these solenoids to be inside the transmission, usually in the valve body or a mechatronic unit. On many vehicles they are not available separately and the repair is an assembly.
- Check whether an adaptation reset is specified after the repair.

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
