Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent

Severity
Medium
Driving

The fluid temperature signal from sensor "A" is dropping out intermittently. The module gets a plausible reading, loses it, and gets it back. As with all intermittent circuit faults, the cause is far more often a connection than a component.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Note whether it happens hot or cold. A fault that only appears once the transmission is up to temperature points at the sensor or the internal harness.
  2. Wiggle-test the harness at the case connector with the live data screen showing fluid temperature.
  3. Pull the case connector and look for fluid inside it.
  4. Check the fluid level and condition.
  5. Do not drop the pan on the strength of an intermittent code until the external wiring and connector have been cleared.
