Cruise Control Servo Control Circuit Range/Performance

Severity
Low
Driving
No driving restriction

The cruise control servo circuit is electrically sound but the servo is not holding the throttle where it was told. Expect the car to surge, drift off the set speed, or cancel on its own. A vacuum leak in the servo or its hoses is the usual reason.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the vacuum hoses first. On a vacuum-operated cruise system a perished or disconnected hose is the most common cause and the cheapest to fix.
  2. Measure the solenoid winding resistance against specification.
  3. Inspect the connector for corrosion.
  4. Check the vacuum supply and its non-return valve.
  5. Confirm ordinary driving is unaffected before deciding how urgent this is.
