The battery temperature sensor is answering, but the temperature it reports is not plausible - it does not change as conditions do, or it disagrees with ambient temperature by more than the module will accept. The sensor is working; it is just not telling the truth, so charging compensation will be wrong.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Compare the reported temperature with ambient on a cold vehicle that has stood overnight.
  2. Check the sensor is properly seated against the battery. A dislodged sensor reads air temperature rather than battery temperature and produces exactly this.
  3. Consider whether the battery genuinely is hot. A hot battery on a cool day means it is being overcharged or is failing internally, and that is the more serious finding.
  4. Check the wiring and connector for high resistance and acid damage.
  5. Check charging voltage against specification.
