Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low

Severity
Medium
Driving

The battery temperature sensor signal is stuck low - typically shorted to earth or open circuit, depending on the sensor type. The module has no usable battery temperature and will fall back to a default charging voltage, which is safe but not optimal for battery life.

What to check, in order

  1. Check the sensor is connected. After a battery change this is the answer more often than not.
  2. Unplug the sensor and check whether the low reading persists at the harness.
  3. Inspect the connector for corrosion and acid damage.
  4. Measure the sensor resistance against specification at a known temperature.
  5. Check charging voltage against specification while you are there.
