Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit

Severity

Driving

A fault in the circuit of fuel temperature sensor "A". The module uses fuel temperature to correct for the fact that warm fuel is less dense than cold fuel, so the same injector opening time delivers a different amount of energy. The correction is small, which is why the symptoms usually are too.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Compare the fuel temperature reading against ambient with the vehicle standing overnight. They should be close; a large difference on a cold vehicle condemns the sensor.
  2. Inspect the connector for corrosion and water ingress. These sensors are frequently mounted low down or in the tank, where connectors suffer.
  3. Check the wiring and the earth before replacing the sensor.
  4. Do not expect dramatic symptoms. This sensor trims fuelling rather than determining it, so the code is often the only sign - which is not a reason to ignore it, because the trim it applies is wrong until it is fixed.
