O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

Severity
Low
Driving
Drivable — book it in

Oxygen sensor 2 on bank 1 - a downstream sensor after the catalytic converter - is reporting persistently low voltage, meaning a lean signal. Because this sensor monitors the converter rather than controlling fuel, the effect on drivability is usually minimal, but it stops converter monitoring working.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check for exhaust leaks around and ahead of the sensor - joints, flex sections and the converter seams.
  2. Inspect the wiring under the car for chafing, stone damage and corrosion.
  3. Check the connector for water and corrosion.
  4. Replace the sensor only after leaks and wiring have been eliminated.
