O2 Sensor Heater Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

Severity

Driving
Drivable — book it in

The heater circuit in oxygen sensor 2 on bank 1, downstream of the converter, has a fault. The heater brings the sensor up to working temperature after start-up. Without it the sensor cannot monitor the converter properly, though the engine will still run normally since this sensor does not control fuelling.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the heater circuit fuse first.
  2. Measure heater resistance at the connector against specification.
  3. Inspect the under-car wiring for salt corrosion and stone damage.
  4. If several heater codes are stored together, check the shared fuse before replacing sensors.
