There is no high-resolution timing reference signal "A" at all. The module is receiving nothing where it expects a pulse train.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check continuity through the sensor circuit and measure the sensor against specification.
  2. Confirm the connector is actually plugged in - this sensor is often disturbed during other work.
  3. Read all codes. Crankshaft and camshaft codes alongside these point at timing rather than at this sensor.
  4. Inspect the connector and wiring for corrosion, chafing and heat damage.
  5. Inspect the sensor tip for debris and the trigger wheel for damage.
  6. Check the harness routing. This is a fine-resolution signal and it is more vulnerable to interference than most, so a lead re-routed against an ignition component can cause it.
