Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit No Signal

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

There is no ignition or distributor engine speed signal at all. Without it the module cannot time the spark, so the engine will not run.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check inside the distributor cap for moisture, cracks and corroded contacts - the cheapest thing to eliminate.
  2. Check the connector and wiring at the distributor.
  3. Watch engine speed on the live data screen while cranking.
  4. Check the distributor shaft for play. A worn shaft moves the pickup out of position and produces an erratic signal that no new sensor will fix.
