Rough Road Sensor "B"

Severity

Driving

A fault in the rough road sensor "B" circuit. This sensor tells the module when the road surface is rough, so that the crankshaft speed variations caused by bumps are not counted as engine misfires. With it faulty, misfire detection becomes unreliable.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the connector and wiring at the sensor.
  2. Check for ABS or wheel speed codes - on many vehicles the rough road signal is derived there rather than from a dedicated sensor.
  3. Treat any misfire codes stored alongside with suspicion, particularly ones that appeared on a bad road.
  4. Confirm the engine actually feels like it is misfiring before chasing misfire codes.
