Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Performance

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

Fuel pressure regulator 2 is electrically sound but not controlling pressure as commanded. Since the circuit checks out, the cause is the fuel side: a restricted supply, debris in the regulator, or a pump that cannot deliver what is being asked of it.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the fuel filter and when it was last changed. A restricted supply makes a healthy regulator look faulty, and it is the cheapest thing to eliminate.
  2. Compare commanded against actual fuel pressure on the live data screen.
  3. Inspect the connector and wiring at the regulator.
  4. Measure the regulator winding resistance against specification.
  5. Get a professional assessment before replacing a high-pressure pump - it is expensive and it is frequently blamed for supply problems upstream of it.
