Injector Control Pressure Sensor Circuit

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

A fault in the injector control pressure sensor circuit. Some diesels fire their injectors using engine oil at very high pressure rather than electrically, and this sensor reports that pressure. Without it the module cannot control injection at all.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the engine oil level, condition and grade first. These systems use engine oil at very high pressure to fire the injectors, so oil that is low, degraded or the wrong grade causes faults here before anything else does.
  2. Inspect the connector for oil contamination - a leaking sensor seal fills its own plug.
  3. Watch the reported pressure on the live data screen during cranking and at idle.
  4. Look for external oil leaks around the high-pressure rail and its fittings.
  5. Read all codes. A pressure-too-low code alongside a sensor code usually means the pressure is genuinely low and the sensor is right.

Read this code from your own car

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
