Actuator Supply Voltage "B" Circuit/Open

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

An open circuit or general fault in actuator supply voltage "B". This is the supply the module provides to a group of actuators - solenoids, valves, relays - rather than to sensors. When it is lost, everything on that supply stops working at once, so expect several actuator codes together rather than one.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the fuses first. A blown fuse on a shared supply is the cheapest possible cause and it explains every code stored alongside.
  2. List which actuators have faulted - they share supply "B", and that list tells you which circuit to trace.
  3. Disconnect actuators on that supply one at a time while watching the supply voltage. Recovery identifies the one that is shorting it.
  4. Inspect connectors for water and corrosion.
  5. Do not diagnose the individual actuator codes until the supply is restored.

Read this code from your own car

Plug an ELM327 adapter into the OBD-II port under the dashboard. Pin16 reads every stored, pending and permanent code, explains each one like this page does — offline, with no account — and shows what the car recorded when the fault was set.
