Injector Control Pressure Regulator Circuit/Open

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

An open circuit in the injector control pressure regulator. This valve sets the high oil pressure that fires the injectors on some diesels; without control of it, injection cannot be managed and the engine will run badly or not at all.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the engine oil level, condition and grade first. These systems fire the injectors using engine oil at very high pressure, so oil faults cause more problems here than wiring does.
  2. Inspect the connector for oil contamination - a leaking seal fills its own plug.
  3. Measure the regulator winding resistance against specification.
  4. Watch commanded against actual injector control pressure on the live data screen.
  5. Read all codes - pressure codes alongside this one usually mean the pressure is genuinely wrong.
