A/C Refrigerant Distribution Valve Control Circuit/Open

Severity
Low
Driving
No driving restriction

An open circuit in the air conditioning refrigerant distribution valve control. On vehicles with more than one evaporator - a rear climate zone, typically - this valve decides where the refrigerant goes. With it uncontrolled, one zone may get everything and another nothing.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check whether one zone works and another does not. That pattern points at the distribution valve rather than at the system as a whole.
  2. Check the fuse for the circuit.
  3. Inspect the connector and wiring at the valve.
  4. Measure the solenoid winding resistance against specification.
  5. Have the refrigerant charge checked - a low charge produces poor cooling that looks like a distribution fault.
