Fuel Pump "B" Control Circuit Low

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The fuel pump "B" control circuit is reading low - typically shorted to earth or an open circuit. The module cannot switch that pump properly, so it may not run, may run weakly, or may keep running when the ignition is off.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check whether the low reading persists with the relay removed.
  2. Listen for the pump. Switch the ignition on without cranking and listen at the fuel tank - a working pump runs for a second or two. Silence is a clear finding and costs nothing.
  3. Check the fuse and swap the relay with an identical one from elsewhere in the box.
  4. Check for battery voltage at the pump connector while the pump should be running.
  5. Check the pump earth - a corroded earth produces the same symptoms as a failed pump.
  6. Inspect the wiring under the vehicle for corrosion and impact damage.
