Fuel Shutoff Valve "B" Control Circuit/Open

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

An open circuit in the fuel shutoff valve "B" control. On a bi-fuel or alternative-fuel vehicle these valves select which fuel supply is open; on a diesel a shutoff valve is what stops the engine. With the circuit open the valve cannot be operated.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check the fuse and relay for the circuit before anything else.
  2. Check for battery voltage at the valve when it should be open.
  3. Measure the valve winding resistance against specification.
  4. Inspect the connector for corrosion - many of these valves are mounted underneath.
  5. On a bi-fuel vehicle, check whether the engine runs correctly on the other fuel. That single test separates a valve fault from a general fuel system problem.
