Engine RPM Output Circuit

Severity

A fault in the engine speed output circuit - the wire by which the module tells other systems how fast the engine is turning. The engine itself is unaffected; what fails is whatever was relying on being told.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Check whether the rev counter works. If it does, the fault is in the circuit rather than in what it feeds.
  2. Inspect the connectors at both ends.
  3. Check the wiring for chafe damage and for aftermarket splices - rev limiters, shift lights and performance gauges are commonly wired into this circuit.
