Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance

Severity
Medium
Driving
Drive only to a garage

Boost sensor "A" is answering, but the pressure it reports is not plausible. Either the sensor is inaccurate, or the boost genuinely is wrong - and a split hose or a failing turbo will produce this with a perfectly good sensor.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Watch the boost reading on the live data screen. With the engine off it should read close to atmospheric pressure - a reading far from that on a stationary engine proves the sensor wrong without any dismantling.
  2. Check the sensing hose for splits, blockage and oil.
  3. Inspect the connector for corrosion and oil.
  4. Check the reference voltage and earth before condemning the sensor.
  5. Check for boost leaks before assuming the sensor is lying - a split hose makes an accurate sensor report low boost.
