DC/DC Converter Enable Circuit/Open

Severity
High
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The circuit the module uses to switch the DC/DC converter on is open - a broken wire, a disconnected plug, or a failed input on the converter. This is the command side rather than the reporting side: the converter may be perfectly healthy and simply never told to run. Either way the 12 volt system is not being charged, and on a hybrid or electric vehicle nothing else charges it.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Measure the 12 volt system voltage with the vehicle powered up and ready. If it sits near battery voltage rather than around 14 volts, the converter is not running.
  2. Check the 12 volt battery first - it is the most common cause of scattered hybrid system codes.
  3. Check the enable circuit's fuse and its continuity from the module to the converter.
  4. Read all codes. A converter status code stored alongside this one usually means the converter is fine and the command never reaches it.
  5. Stop at the 12 volt system and the fuse box.
