Software Incompatibility with Throttle Actuator Control Module

Severity
Critical
Driving
Drive only to a garage

The software in the throttle actuator control module is not compatible with the rest of the vehicle. That module operates the electronic throttle, and without a valid configuration the engine will be held to a reduced-power mode - the throttle cannot be trusted to open the amount the driver is asking for.

Possible causes

What you might notice

What to check, in order

  1. Be aware that the vehicle will not deliver full power. Avoid overtaking, motorway slip roads and anything else that needs the car to respond.
  2. Ask what was done. A throttle body or engine module replacement immediately before this appeared is the explanation.
  3. Check whether a throttle adaptation was required and skipped after fitting.
  4. Read the module's software and part numbers against the engine variant, not just the model.
  5. Ask whether a tuning box or remap has been fitted. These are a real cause and are often not mentioned until asked directly.
  6. This needs manufacturer-level programming rather than a replacement part.
